A few random details:

I hold a degree in Humanities from York University. It was the only degree I could find that would let me study modern literature, ancient history, astronomy, world religions, media culture, the holocaust, and post-apocalyptic fiction all at the same time.

I’m a graduate of the 2001 Clarion Writers' Workshop, and a current staff member of the Alpha science fiction and fantasy workshop for young writers aged 14-19. I have also led local workshops and given talks on SF/F writing.

My friend Sarah Jane Elliott and I own a small jewelry design company, Stellar Magpie Creations, which specializes in expressive and glittery wirework. Learning to make my own jewelry was the only way I knew to ever truly have enough interesting earrings.

I currently study Egyptian and Tribal-style bellydance at the Arabesque Academy in Toronto. Fun, physically challenging, and sparkly -- what's not to love?

I am an armchair adventure racing fanatic. I am still in mourning for the loss of the Eco-Challenge. And, despite never setting foot on a sailboat, I’m also a fan of single-handed sailboat circumnavigation races -- namely the Vendee Globe and Velux 5 Oceans -- and follow Toronto-based skipper Derek Hatfield and his boat Spirit of Canada on their sailing adventures around the world.

Unless it’s midday in the sun in the middle of summer, I’m cold. Chances are, I’m cold right at this very moment.

I am currently battling a novel. I am always battling a novel. One day, I will win ... and begin the battle again on the next.
